"Villainous" by Aaron Sandberg

Villainous

We tied it to a track,
put our ears to the rail,
made fate keep its schedule,
twirled a mustache.

That sort of thing.

Who was there to stop us —
some discount-costume hero
in cellophane cape?

Scorch earth. Let it burn.
The 9:05 is on time.

Here, there’s no there there.

Here, there’s nothing
that needs to be saved.
